Program: Our guest speaker is Joe BoIing, the co-author of the book “World War II Remembered”. He will present a 70 minute PowerPoint entitled “Counterfeit notes coming out of China.” These are not counterfeits made to circulate; they are counterfeits made after the original notes were in use, meant to bilk collectors or tourists. To identify most of these you will need a 20x magnification capability—you have to be able to see what printing technology was used. Most of the 1948-1949 notes of the People’s Republic of China were originally lithographed. They were demonetized in 1955 and began to be replicated for tourists soon thereafter. Today most of these notes have three-figure values in high grade, so reprints are lucrative. He will also look at fake specimens, and genuine notes altered to give them substantially higher values.

Thank you and I hope to see you at this meeting.

Michael Souza
President
