The next North Shore Numismatic Society’s Zoom Meeting is Tuesday, March 16th. You can sign onto Zoom at 6:30 pm and the meeting will start at 7:00 pm. It is open to both members and non-members, so everyone is welcome.
The Zoom sign-on link will be sent out to everyone on Saturday, March 13th.
Program: This month, we have guest speakers, James Williston and Kelly Finnegan, who will give us a presentation on “Encased Coins – Part 1”. Part 2 of the program will be presented at the April meeting. They will discuss the history of encased coins, why they were made and will show the different types of encasements that are used, along with the different denominations.

We would like to advise that we cannot accept pre-auction bids. If you would like to bid on an item, please participate in the Zoom meeting. At the conclusion of the auction, it is the responsibility of the seller and buyer to make arrangements to finalize the transaction.

Encased coins are coins that have been inserted into a holder that changes the character of the coin from money to an advertising or souvenir device. The concept was really popularized at the Pan American Exposition in 1901 and was used extensively throughout the the 20th century for advertising.
