January Club Meeting and Coin Show

Happy New Year everyone,

2017 is Canada’s sesquicentennial

Before I forget, the next Coins, Stamps & Collectibles Show at the Nikkei Centre is on Saturday, January 28th, 9 am to 3 pm.

The next North Shore Numismatic Society Meeting is on Tuesday, January 17th.  The meetings are held at the Bonsor Recreation Centre in Burnaby in Multipurpose Room #2.  Doors open at 7 pm and the meeting starts at 7:30 pm.  The meeting is open to both members and non-members, so everyone is welcome.

Program: Michael Souza will present a PowerPoint program on “Counterfeiters and Forgers”.  Despite severe penalties for counterfeiting, they have not stopped the subjects of this PowerPoint from “making money”.

Please remember to bring your floor submissions auction material.  I only have a limited amount of change, so please bring small bills and change to pay for your successful bid.

The recently unveiled $200 Proof gold coin harkens back to the 1870s and Canada’s early coin designs. Tied by a bow at the bottom of the reverse, two crossed maple boughs curve upward along the coin’s rim. Its maple leaves point toward a current depiction of St. Edward’s Crown near the top. Engraved on the reverse is the face value, “200 DOLLARS”; the issuing country, “CANADA”; and the commemorative dates, “1867-2017”
