Loon like a dollar coin

2018 Justin Trudeau political protest coin.  The coins name “Trudough” is a nod to Trudeau Sr. who had his own “Trudough” protest notes in the 60’s.  The coin is designed to loosely resemble a Canadian one dollar (Loony) coin but approximately double the size.  It highlights the Trudeau government’s pipeline deal with Kinder Morgan. The reverse features a loon coated in oil with the word “CANADA”, the date ‘2018’ and “TRUDOUGH”.  The obverse feature a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II shedding a large tear drop and the words ‘KINDER’ and ‘MORGAN’ on each side of the portrait. Our Coins, Stamps and Collectables Show  on January 26th turned out to be a success with attendance up, some good feedback,  all of our tables booked, and a small “profit” for our non-profit club. If we have a profit at year end, we donate it to support local charities such as the BC Children’s Hospital, the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, and the Union Gospel Mission. Remembering Norman Williams (1924-2018)

Norm was born in 1924 at Fernie, B.C. to a Ukrainian-Canadian family.  His baptismal name was Vladimir Waslykow, which he later changed to “Norman Williams” before practising law.  His father ran a restaurant in Kamloops, B.C. – a fact that he would mention to servers whenever we were at a restaurant.  Norm attended the University of British Columbia’s law school and set up his law practice in New Westminster.  In the 1980s when I telephoned him at his office, he was often at the Elks Club for lunch which extended into afternoon card games.  His first wife was a Hungarian…
