The next North Shore Numismatic Society Meeting is on Tuesday, June 20th. The meetings are held at the Bonsor Recreation Centre in Burnaby in Multipurpose Room #2. Doors open at 7 pm and the meetings start at 7:30 pm. The meeting is open to both members and non-members, everyone is welcome!
Program: Author Harvey Richer is our guest speaker at this meeting. Dr. Richer is a professor of astronomy at the University of British Columbia. He is one of the largest Canadian users of the Hubble Space Telescope. He was born in Montreal where (in the 1950’s) he began collecting coins out of circulation. His collecting specialty is the gold coins of Newfoundland. He has just completed a book on the subject and he will discuss highlights of the book at the meeting and also present a PowerPoint entitled: A New Book: The Gold Coins of Newfoundland.
Copies of his book will be available for purchase at the meeting and are currently available at the UBC Bookstore or by contacting the publisher (Boulder Publications) .
Dr. Richer has kindly donated a copy of the book to our club and all attendees at the June meeting will receive a free raffle ticket. At the end of Dr. Richer’s presentation, the draw will be made and some lucky attendee will win the book.
Because this is our last meeting before we break for the summer, following Dr. Richer’s presentation, we will have our annual Pizza and Bourse Night . Please note that we will not have an auction nor offer Door Prizes at this meeting. Please bring items you would like to sell (or give away).
Hope to see you all at this meeting.
